If you ever wanted to see Batman look like a crazed robot warrior, you're in luck.
For San Diego Comic-Con, game company Square Enix revealed an exclusive figure for its Play Arts line of high-end figures. This variant of Batman is designed by Japanese artist Tetsuya Nomura. This Batman figure is wearing bulky black armor with a helmet that has a red visor shaped like a bat, with wings extending upward in a fashion more extreme than past Batman costumes.
With such an armored suit, Batman does look like a character from a Japanese comic book or animated film that flies through outer-space and takes on alien spacecraft. The huge metallic wings on this Batman's cape look like they were specifically crafted for flight.
Tetsuya Nomura is most know for providing art and character design for Square Enix. This includes work for several Final Fantasy titles, including the popular Final Fantasy VII and the more recent Final Fantasy XIII. He was also the designer and director of the Kingdom Hearts games which mash-up Japanese role-playing game tropes with Disney characters. He is also the director behind the upcoming Final Fantasy XV.
The variant Batman was shown at the Square Enix booth at San Diego Comic-Con as a prototype for an upcoming figure release, part of a new line of Batman figures from Play Arts.
Additional art for the figure can be found at the Square Enix website.
