GM issues six more recalls involving 718,000 vehicles

The newest set of recalls from General Motors will bring the company's total worldwide recalls to a whopping record of almost 30 million this year.

While most of these recalls have been conducted for older models, the latest round involves newer vehicle models. These include 57,242 Chevrolet Impala 2014 sedan models, which were noted to have lost their power steering.

According to GM, the move to conduct a recall was decided after vehicle-related accidents were reported, such as three crashes and two injuries. No deaths have been recorded.

The defective vehicles include 414,333 of the Chevrolet Camaro (2011-2012), Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain (both from 2010-2012), Buick Regal and LaCrosse (both from 2011-2012), and Cadillac SRX models (2010-2012). These models have been found to have a loose bolt in the front seat adjuster. Moreover, the imported car from Korea dubbed as Chevrolet Spark has been recalled because of a loose lower control arm bolt.

The recall also covers 124,007 vehicles with issues of having an incomplete weld on their seat hook bracket. These would include Chevrolet Caprice (2014), Chevrolet SS (2014), Chevrolet Silverado LD and HD (2014-2015), Cadillac ATS (2013-2014), Cadillac CTS (2014), Cadillac ELR (2014), Buick Encore (2013-2014), and GMC Sierra LD and HD (2014-2015).

Another 120,426 Buick Regal M.Y 2011 to 2013 and Chevrolet Malibus M.Y. 2013 are recalled due to front turn signal issues. Retaining nuts of roof carriers for 2015 model Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and Yukon Denali by GMC cause the recall of 22 units of said models.

While the carmaker did not confirm the relation between the above-mentioned accidents to the upcoming recall, it had admitted that the defect could possibly lead to a mechanical problem which could cause the steering wheel to be uncontrollable.

The latest round of recalls is part of the company's commitment to assess itsr own performance when it comes to the vehicle's safety issues. Jeff Boyer, VP in charge of global vehicle safety, says, "These recalls signify how we've enhanced our approach to safety. We are bringing greater rigor and discipline to our analysis and decision making. If we identify an issue -- large or small -- that might affect the safety of our customers, we will act decisively."

Despite the number of recalls, company sales remain steady with values for resale and trade-in showing no signs of losses. "It must be a little easier for the company to continue in this direction," says director of residual values Eric Ibara for Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com.

GM expressed in a statement that vehicle owners should have their defective vehicle models inspected by bringing them to authorized dealers. The company further assessed that it is highly likely that less than 1 percent of welds should need replacement.
