Looking at the seven plates waiting to be eaten, it's not quite food of the gods. To become the hulking demigod Hercules, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had a strict diet for six months. The massive intake of food fueled two daily workouts and the 12-hour days of arduous filming to make the mythological action film.
According to reports, Johnson would start eating immediately when he woke up at 4:00 a.m. to start his cardio training. Here is the rundown of the entire diet regimen:
Meal 1: 10 ounce fillet of beef, along with 4 egg whites, 5 ounces of oatmeal or Cream of Wheat.
Meal 2: 8 ounce chicken cutlet, beside 2 cups of white rice and 1 cup of broccoli.
Meal 3: 8 ounce fillet of halibut, with 2 cups of white rice and 1 cup of asparagus.
Meal 4: 8 ounce chicken cutlet, paired with a 12-ounce baked potato and 1 cup of broccoli.
Meal 5: 8 ounce fillet of halibut, joined by 1.5 cups of white rice and 1 cup of asparagus.
Meal 6: 8 ounce fillet of beef, accompanied by a 9-ounce baked potato and salad.
Meal 7: A protein drink with 30 grams of Casein protein, served with 10 egg whites, scrambled with onion, peppers and mushrooms.
That last meal was eaten by Johnson around 11:00 p.m., right before he went to bed. Then he would get five hours of sleep before he started it all over again the next day.
"The only tough one was the last meal of the day, No. 7," said Johnson. "I get back to the hotel room, I'm ready to go to sleep. But I have to down 10 egg whites."
All of the food was cut up and prepare beforehand for quick consumption. There was no soy sauce for the rice. He would eat out of a large plastic container, using a spoon to shovel it down his throat.
"The Rock" shared the details of the diet on his Instagram page, noting that a cup of Nemean Lion blood was optional.
He stated along with the diet's details on Instagram, "I only had one crack at making HERCULES EPIC so I committed."
Johnson also shared the details of his workout regime on Instagram, from Back exercises to Arm routine to Leg work, with all the work for the other areas of the body described in between.
The "Hercules film" is directed by Brett Ratner and will be released this Friday, June 25.
