In an effort to promote Android Pay, Google has decided to go the philanthropic route this holiday season. Pairing up with the education-based nonprofit DonorsChoose.org, the company will donate $1 of any purchase made with Android Pay to special education programs across the U.S.
The promotional, charity-oriented program will run until Dec. 31 of this year, just in time to piggyback on the holiday shopping season, hence the motto " 'tis the season to give back," touted on Android Pay's official press release on the partnership. But then again, it might not be worth it to be such a Scrooge about the matter—as they also point out, around 6.4 million children in the American education system have special needs, so the more help, the merrier.
There is, however, a cap in place for Android Pay and Google's sponsorship: the tech companies will only donate up to $1 million total, even if the promotion has not ended.
