'Dying Light' Developer Announces Price Hike For DLC Season Pass

Video gamers planning on getting their hands on the season pass for zombie survival adventure parkour game Dying Light probably want to jump on it quickly: the price for the season pass goes up from $19.99 to $29.99 after December 8.

Game developer Techland explained the reasoning behind the price hike as due to the massive amount of content that the upcoming "The Following" expansion pack offers.

"Over the past weeks Dying Light: The Following has almost reached its final stage: main quests, side quests, new skills, and driving challenges are ready," wrote Techland in a press release via email. "We now are moving into the polishing period. Looking at it, it's clear how big the expansion pack has grown - it could be a standalone title, but since it would mean a launch delay, we decided against it."

The developer assures gamers who already purchased the season pass for $19.99 that they won't incur any additional charges. And to keep things fair, Techland plans on offering the pass for the lower price until December 8, giving gamers plenty of time to grab it before it goes up to $29.99.

"As promised back in August, our expansion will still be free for all Dying Light Season Pass holders," wrote Techland. "However since the Season Pass will now include this bigger-than-anticipated addition, we needed to adjust the price accordingly."

When Techland introduced "The Following," it promised a massive new area for the game with maps bigger than those of the original title. "The Following" takes Kyle Crane to a dangerous outback, where he must fight off the undead and a fanatical group who have a link to the zombie apocalypse. Crane must infiltrate the group and learn their secrets to progress through the expansion.

Crane also gets a new piece of equipment in "The Following": a customizable dirt buggy that allows him to quickly cross the outback, as well as take out zombies by running them down or via drive-by shootings.

The price of the expansion pack without the season pass is now $19.99, up from its originally announced cost of $14.99. All existing season pass holders automatically get the expansion, though.

Techland also promises more reveals for the new expansion and hopes to have those announcements available soon.

Techland released Dying Light in February and it now available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. "The Following" gets a release in early 2016.
