In celebration of its second anniversary, Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus announced on Tuesday that it is auctioning off the special zirconia ceramic edition of its OnePlus X device for charity.
OnePlus announced the limited-edition version of its midrange smartphone as available for purchase last week. However, those who are familiar with the company know that they can only purchase the device through its invite-only system.
However, as part of the phone's release, the company is launching a new eBay Giving Works auction that will allow five lucky consumers to get their hands on the actual ceramic device.
Those interested in the device can visit one of the five OnePlus X Ceramic auctions on eBay, log into their account and place their bid. The auctions will only last five days, so make sure you place your bids if you are gunning for the special edition smartphone. The bidding starts at just $0.99, but one of the devices is already at $700, which means the next bidder will have to enter in at least $710 to be in the running.
If you are one of the lucky highest bidders when the auction ends, you will receive the OnePlus X Ceramic smartphone, as well as an invite to share with a family or friend who also wants the device. The company also revealed that the highest bidder of all five auctions will also take home another special prize.
All proceeds will go to charity: Water, a nonprofit organization that has the mission of bringing clean water to more than 633 million people, focuses on solutions such as wells, filters, health education, etc. that will help those in need.
Only 10,000 units of the OnePlus X Ceramic are in existence, so this could be a great way to get the recently-launched device, while supporting a good cause.
The OnePlus X features a five-inch 1080p AMOLED display, with 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and up to 128 GB of storage via a microSD card. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and has a a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera, 8 megapixel front-facing camera and a 2,525 mAh battery.
With its metal frame, scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 3 display screen and crafting from zirconia, the OnePlus X brings luxury and craftsmanship into one package.
