It's that time of the year again: that time when people start posting memes that "winter is coming" and television begins promising midseason finales with cliffhangers that fans won't quickly forget.
The Walking Dead is coming up on its own midseason finale and a new trailer shows that things are about to get very undead in the town of Alexandria.
In this new trailer, hordes of walkers invade the town and it looks like there are so many zombies now that the only solution for survival might mean running away from the once-safe community. This seems to happen nearly every season of the series, after all: Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and crew find somewhere they believe is safe, they hole up, get comfortable and then suddenly, there are zombies everywhere and they have to hit the road again, wandering from state to state in search of that illusive safe place.
Here is the episode description:
"After having a few moments of peace, trouble finds its way to Alexandria yet again. Only this time, the threat might be too big to defeat.
Of course, fans now know that one particular character thought dead is actually very much alive and that he survived events from earlier this season, thanks to last night's episode. That's right: Glenn (Steve Yeun) survived being eaten by walkers by hiding under a dumpster.
"It proves this world can take the story of the good guy winning sometimes," said on The Talking Dead, as reported by Us. "I feel relieved, I feel very grateful, I feel so amazed at the response."
Earlier this season, fans of the series went on a social media rampage when they believed one of the show's most beloved characters died. It didn't take long, though, for fans to begin coming up with theories on how Glenn survived those incidents: it turns out that they were right. However, The Walking Dead showrunners believe that the secret was important in keeping over several episodes of the series to drive home the theme of the show: no one is safe from the undead.
"It was important to do a story this year about uncertainty, and that the audience would share that uncertainty that the characters had," said executive producer Scott Gimple.
A sneak peek of next week's episode from AMC also shows Glenn front and center in all his living glory.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC.
