Google Introduces Star Wars Site, Asking Users To Choose Their Side And Promising Themed Changes To Gmail, YouTube And More

Weeks away from the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Google wants you to choose your side.

Are you with the light or dark side? Having partnered with Lucasfilm and Disney to launch Google.com/starwars, the tech juggernaut says making that choice will be reflected within your favorite apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome and more.

"And that's just the beginning. We've got more coming between now and opening night — the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual reality) glory included, so stay tuned," Google promised as part of its announcement Monday. "And we've hidden a few easter eggs, too. So awaken the Force within, and be on the lookout for things from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

If that wasn't enough to drive Star Wars' fans into mass hysteria, part of Google's blog describes how the company's offices regularly counts Darth Vaders and dogs dressed as Yoda, as well as the "occasional stormtrooper" roaming its busy halls and data centers. Yes, Star Wars' fans should all be applying to Google right now. And ... go.

In addition, there was plenty of thought to this Choose Your Side campaign, as Google said it left previous ideas like adding a Star Wars search function, making a Millennium Falcon in Cardboard and even Google Translate deciphering galactic language on the cutting room floor, opting for your side to impact your apps instead.

So, which side are you with? If it's the dark side ... you will suffer the apt, no app, consequences.
