The PlayStation 3 game The Last of Us was a critically-acclaimed action drama that hit consoles last year. To celebrate the release of the remastered version for PlayStation 4, Sony is holding a live event in Santa Monica, California.
"The Last of Us: One Night Live" will feature a live-reading of select scenes form the game by five of the actors from the game: Troy Baker (Joel), Ashley Johnson (Ellie), Merle Dandridge (Marlene), Hana Hayes (Sarah) and Annie Wersching (Tess). They will be directed by the game's creative director, Neil Druckmann. The composer behind the score of the game, Academy Award-winner Gustavo Santaolalla, will also be performing music from the game.
The blog post by host Geoff Keighley about the event calls it "a special one-night-only performance" and "an experimental project." The post also hints that there may be more to the event than the announced content.
The Last of Us event will be held at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on Monday, July 28 at 7:00 PM Pacific. The free tickets that Sony was giving out for the event at the theater quickly sold out, but Sony will also be streaming "select portions of the program" on Twitch, YouTube and on the PlayStation Network's Live Event Viewer.
The Last of Us game tells the story of two survivors traveling across an America that has been ruined after the undead apocalypse. Joel is a veteran of the 20-year fight with the fungi-infected zombies, who has taken up the task of escorting Ellie, only a 14-year old girl, across the U.S. During their journey, the encounter violent bandits, other travelers and the deadly infected.
Geoff Keighley is a gaming journalist who publishes features about the video game industry and the creation of games. He also hosts the GamesTrailers TV show that airs on Spike TV and on GameTrailers.com.
The PlayStation 4 version of the game, The Last of Us Remastered, features improved graphics: with the resolution upped to 1080p, the frame increased to a smooth 60 frames per second, the lighting and shadows improved and more detailed versions of the characters being used. Beyond the graphical update, this version also features actor and director commentary and the previously released downloadable content included.
The Last of Us Remastered will be released for PlayStation 4 on July 29.
