Microsoft And Volvo Team Up To Revolutionize The Way You Buy A Car With HoloLens [Video]

Volvo and Microsoft are ready to harness HoloLens' potential. The two companies aim to use the holographic computerized goggles to show clients everything they want to know about a car before buying it.

Microsoft HoloLens, the first untethered holographic computer that works on Windows 10, has many practical uses. Whether for design, healthcare, education or entertainment, HoloLens unlocks visual experiences that no other device can replicate.

Microsoft's gadget finely completes Volvo's vision. The Swedish corporation takes human-centric design very seriously, while the holographic computer focuses on the people's experience. When they use the headset, users remain aware of the objective reality, but are able to interact with holographic elements that do not bow to the laws of physics.

"With HoloLens we have the freedom to create a bespoke experience which customers can steer themselves," Senior Vice President, Marketing Sales and Service at Volvo Cars, Björn Annwall, explains.

He went on to describe the level of detailing that the buyers could get into, and there are only few things that HoloLens could not do. The mixed reality could allow you to switch back and forth between rim styles and colors for finishings. For example, HoloLens could showcase the features and options that come with various trim levels.

What HoloLens can do is help people create virtual images of physical reality, thus saving time and money. Virtual reality and augmented reality are in deep synergy within Microsoft's goggle technology, and the video embedded at the end of this article depicts exactly how seducing this synthesis can be.

The market niche that HoloLens enters is one of high-end, expensive technology that needs some time before it can become a common commodity. The first models, which cost $3,000 a piece, will reach their owners in the first quarter of 2016.

HoloLens can be extremely useful in the world of real-estate, construction, architecture and interior design, and it was only a matter of time before a car manufacturer jumped on the occasion to implement the holograms in its design and selling processes.

"We are just scratching the surface of the diverse types of experiences enabled by HoloLens, and together, with developers and our commercial partners, will continue to help people harness the power of holographic computing," Microsoft notes.
