If you've been itching to try your hand at the 2K's latest basketball sim, your patience has paid off. NBA 2K16 will be free to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers on Xbox One this weekend, so you can start the NBA season early.
The game will go free at 9 a.m. PT on Nov. 20 and will stay that way through 11:59 p.m. PT on Nov. 22. If you do decide to take the game for a spin and find you enjoy it, NBA 2K16 will be on sale all weekend. Microsoft hasn't revealed how much the discount will be, but all of your stats and achievements will carry over from the free trial to the full version of the game, should you choose to upgrade.
At the forefront of the new NBA 2K16 experience is a MyCareer mode written and directed by legendary filmmaker Spike Lee. Along with experiencing the modern state of the NBA, the game also features 12 new legendary teams, including the 2000-2001 L.A. Lakers and 2007-2008 Boston Celtics.
NBA 2K16 released to positive reviews earlier this year. Game Informer called the title "a thundering slam dunk" and rated it a 9 out of 10. IGN had much of the same to say, calling it "one of the most complete packages" it has ever seen. Currently, the game sits at an 86 out of 100 on review aggregation site Metacritic.
Those are plenty of reasons to take the game out for a spin. After all, you can't beat free.
