2015 Toyota Sienna gets a refresh, families share 'Swagger Wagon' love

Boasting the most airbags in its class and a slew of family-centric features in its latest iteration, the 2015 Toyota Sienna, dubbed the 'Swagger Wagon,' is making its debut in a series of ad campaigns before it arrives in public at Artscape in Baltimore.

While the drive train was said to have remained unchanged, the 2015 Sienna now comes standard with a panoramic backup camera, navigational guides and eight airbags. Optional features were said to include a 4.2-inch display embedded into its instrument panel, a 7-inch display with capacitive switches, a conversation mirror and black leather.

Described as originating from outer space, Toyota asked families to create digital shorts to promote the 2015 Sienna and encapsulate the spirit of the family-focused vehicle, according to Jack Hollis, vice president of division marketing at Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Toyota selected three of its favorite digital shorts and used them to debut the 2015

"Today's parents are embracing their life stage and those relatable family moments that make us laugh and feel connected," said Hollis. "The 2015 Toyota Sienna seizes that same spirit of fun, everyday experiences with family and fits into the modern family dynamic. That is why Toyota chose to introduce the newest 'Swagger Wagon' to the world through a creative lens."

Matthew Clarke, known for offbeat conversations with his two-year-old daughter, Coco, took on the roll of his daughter and the Sienna stood in for him in one of the 2015 Sienna's three video reveals.

"It's amazing how many people love the random conversations I have with my daughter, so it was fun to bring that sense of humor to the Sienna," Clarke said. "Being a parent has made me much more observant of the little details in life and this campaign made me realize how much a vehicle is really an extension of the family."

Toyota said it would use social media to continue the roll out of information on the 2015 Sienna. The 2015 version of the van will likely retain it's 6-speed, 3.5-liter V6 engine in both its front-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions. Depending on the version, there also are new headlights, taillights and grille.

Other enhancements to the 2015 Sienna include Driver Easy Speak, a microphone and speaker system that will enable drivers to speak above the rabble of a crowded van, and the inclusion of more seat anchors for child safety seats -- instead of three Latch anchors, the 2015 Sienna will feature four. Along with upping the airbag count to eight, airbags on the second and third rows were enlarged.
