Cortana and Edge are about to function a whole lot better thanks to an update to Windows 10.
On Thursday, Microsoft announced its first major update to Windows 10, specifically geared toward tablets and PCs, and what stands out more than anything are the improvements made to Cortana and Edge.
With the update, Cortana will now allow users to scribble a note in the Cortana Notebook and the virtual assistant will recognize the phone number, email address and even physical address, helping to set reminders.
But that's just the beginning. Cortana can now assist with movie bookings, Uber requests and event tracking, also notifying users with reminders to make sure they're where they need to be on time.
The virtual assistant will even notify you about the best coupons from retailers such as Staples, Macys and Best Buy while shopping in Edge.
Speaking of Edge, the update to Windows 10 improves its performance and overall security with a tab preview, allowing users to hover over open tabs to get a quick preview of the content on those websites without leaving the page they're currently on. Edge will even now sync to your favorites and reading list seamlessly across devices for easier retrieval of desired content.
Overall, the update to Windows 10 boasts an accelerated performance in everyday tasks — including a boot time nearly 30 percent faster than Windows 7 on the same device. Also on Thursday, Windows 10 debuted on Xbox One with select phones slated to receive the operating system soon as well.
While the update to Windows 10 is highlighted by the improvements to Cortana and Edge, the revamped operating system also boasts improvements to features such as Mail, Photos, Calendar, Groove, Store and even Solitaire.
