One of the most iconic villains from DC Comics is Gorilla Grodd, who also made an appearance on the first season of the The Flash television series on The CW.
The super-intelligent gorilla will return to Central City in next week's episode with a new preview teasing that Grodd is now even smarter and stronger than ever. In fact, Grodd is now so formidable that Barry (Grant Gustin) doesn't believe that he can defeat him.
The clip begins with Patty (Shantel VanSanten) mentioning Grodd as an urban legend that lives in the sewers, but Team Flash know differently, thanks to events that unfolded last season. In this preview of next week's episode, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) mentions that Grodd wants to make more of his kind, with Cisco (Carlos Valdes) joking that he's "pretty sure that one telepathic Grape Ape is more than enough for this city."
In DC Comics, Gorilla Grodd originated in Gorilla City, an African jungle taken over by intelligent gorillas. On The Flash, though, Grodd is the creation of Harrison Wells, who experimented on Grodd,, creating a creature that is not just super intelligent, but also has super powers that lets him affect others' minds.
In the comics, Grodd intended to take over the world with his kind, so it seems that he might have a similar plan for Central City. With Barry still recovering from his battle with Zoom, will he have the power to stop Grodd from his evil plans?
Here's the official description for next week's episode, titled "Gorilla Warfare":
Grodd returns to Central City and kidnaps Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker). Barry (Grant Gustin) and team race to find her before it's too late. Meanwhile, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) plans his first date with the new barista at Jitters, Kendra Saunders (guest star Ciara Renée) and Patty (guest star Shantel VanSanten) begins to suspect Barry is hiding something from her.
Of course, Barry still has the threat of Zoom hanging over him, too, so he's possibly got more than he can handle, especially after this week's episode.
"He's got this demonic quality to him," said Gustin to Entertainment Weekly in reference to Zoom. "As soon as Barry is face-to-face with him - like right in front of him battling with him - it becomes immediately clear to Barry, 'Maybe I'm not ready for this.' It's pretty scary. It's going to be one of the more disturbing things, I think, that the viewers will have seen happen to Barry."
The Flash airs on The CW on Tuesday nights.
