Vodafone Launching Television Service In The UK Before April 2016

Vodafone has long established itself as one of the largest mobile telecommunications companies in the world — the second-largest, to be exact.

Now, its time to expand its brand. On Tuesday, as part of the company's latest financial report, Vodafone announced that it will be launching a television service in the United Kingdom before the end of its current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2016.

The mention was subtle with Vodafone reporting: "We also brought out our consumer broadband package in the UK, with TV to follow later in the 2016 financial year."

Later, in the filing, the company again states, "with our new TV service to follow in Q4."

The announcement comes after it just launched Vodafone RedOne, billing it as "our fully integrated fixed, mobile and TV service combining high speed mobile and cable."

Although not much is known about Vodafone's television service, The Next Web reports that it's likely to be up against triple- and quad-play bundles (of Internet, cable television, landline phone and mobile service) offered by companies like EE in the UK.

Worldwide, Vodafone had only upwards of nine million television customers at the end of this past September, meaning that the company could see growth in the space by bundling up its services and going for heavier volume.

Even still, The Next Web says that it will have to compete in the UK with services from EE, Sky and BT.

Vodafone's CEO Vittorio Colao said in the company's latest financial report that "we also remain keenly focused on increasing efficiency and improving margins" and "we expect progress to continue in the second half of the year."

Seems like its impending TV service launch will help.
