The Star Wars online community of loyal fans became familiar with the heartfelt story of Daniel Fleetwood this past summer.
The Star Wars super fan was diagnosed with a rare cancer called spindle cell sarcoma this past July and was given only two months to live. His last wish was to see an early screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on Dec. 18.
Well, the community of Star Wars loyalists will be sad to know that Fleetwood lost his battle to cancer at the age of 32 early Tuesday morning, as reported by his wife. He did, however, have his final wish granted to see an early screening of the movie.
"Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace," Ashley Fleetwood said in an emotional post on her Facebook page Tuesday, as reported by Comicbookmovie.com. "He will always be my idol and my hero. Please hug uncle Marc for me and give Lucy lots of kisses. Rest in peace my love. This was the last selfie we ever took together. #forcefordaniel"
That hashtag spread like wildfire online, as fans and celebrities such as Mark Hamill, John Boyega and Carrie Fisher helped put out the word of Daniel's final wish to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The effort helped, as he was able to see an early screening of the movie from the series he loved and cherished so much.
Condolences to his family.
