Celebrities selling their beloved items for charity is not something new in Hollywood but Miley Cyrus started something new on Nov. 7 when she licked a grand piano for charity. The piano, donated by Ruby Rose of "Orange is the New Black" fame, eventually sold for $50,000 during the silent auction.
Everything happened during the Los Angeles LGBT Center's 46th Anniversary Gala where she was the recipient of a Vanguard Award for her work with the L.A. LGBT Center and Happy Hippie Foundation.
Musician Linda Perry performed for the attendees of the gala using the piano, perhaps in an effort to raise its value on top of the majestic white instrument being signed by some of the big names in the music industry. She then invited the 22-year old singer on stage to help raise the bids. Of course, Miley wouldn't be Miley if she didn't rise to the challenge and push the boundaries. Cyrus opted to raise the instrument's value by leaving a little of her DNA on it via her tongue. Her instinct seemed to be right because the bids went up to $50,000.
She posted a photo with Linda Perry on her Facebook account with the caption "#LindaPerry got me to lick a f---in piano!!!!"
Later that night, she spoke in front of over 1,200 guests when she was presented the Vanguard Award. "I want all of you to know that I feel beyond grateful to be in a room full of so many people who care so much about others because, unfortunately, that is way too rare in the world that we live in today," she said in her speech.
"Given the opportunity to sit in one of the support groups I walked away with a feeling of self-love that I have never been able to even give myself before... the LGBT Center had the key to the lock on my cage and they set me free," she added.
