Quentin Tarantino Admits Unease After Cop Backlash But Will Continue Talking

Quentin Tarantino is no stranger to controversy, his most recent of which pitting the director against law enforcement after he attended an anti-police brutality protest in New York.

Appearing on "Real Time with Bill Maher," Tarantino talked about the recent happenings, saying the remarks he made at the protest had been misconstrued. Law enforcement agencies have nonetheless denounced the director and the backlash has caused Tarantino to be uneasy, he admitted.

"I'm now all of a sudden looking into my rearview mirror again."

You'd be uneasy too if cops said they have a "surprise" for you.

The biggest union of sworn officers in the U.S. with over 330,000 members, the Fraternal Order of Police, didn't go into specifics but said the "surprise" is in the works.

"Something could happen anytime between now and [the premiere]. And a lot of it is going to be driven by Tarantino, who is nothing if not predictable," added Jim Pasco, Fraternal Order of Police executive director.

This "surprise" the union is cooking up is on top of the boycott law enforcement agencies have initiated against Tarantino's movies, including the upcoming "The Hateful Eight."

Tarantino told Maher that he has nothing against debating with police officers over what he actually said at the protest and not what they believed he meant. He reiterated that he is not anti-police but is against the killing of unarmed men and women by those in uniform. And even with the unease, he was going to continue talking.

"If they were really ... serious about this, they wouldn't close rank on what I am obviously talking about," he said, pointing out that he wasn't making a generalization about cops but was rather referring to specific cases that can be deemed as murder, such as the deaths of Walter Scott, Eric Garner and Sam DuBose.

The Weinstein Co., which is releasing "The Hateful Eight," has not made any statements about the events surrounding Tarantino but the director said that he has their support and has not been told to apologize so as not to hurt the movie's potential at the box office.
