If you are sick of Pharrell's addictive song and music video "Happy," then Weird Al Yankovic may have just made your day. In the first song and video from his latest album, Weird Al parodies "Happy" with a song titled "Tacky." Then again, perhaps Weird Al's "Tacky" is not a good thing since you may get that "Happy" tune stuck in our head one more time.
The song mentions a series of tasteless actions and terrible fashion. Things like "new glitter rubs and lovely sequined crocs," "never let you forget a favor I did for you," "a new resume printed in Comic Sans," "bring along my coupon book whenever I'm on a date" and more are all listed in the catchy song.
Weird Al starts the song off wearing a suit ensemble that looks like a zoo-full of cartoon animals threw up ink everywhere. He is soon joined by a series of comedians who take over, lipsyncing to the song while dancing in their own monstrous clothes.
Aisha Tyler sports strangely striped and iridescent pants; Margaret Cho wears a big red Carmen Sandiego hat with yellow suspenders; Eric Stonestreet dons a hot pink dress jacket paired with lime green pants; Kristen Schaal shows up a tight black shirt with pink handprints; and Jack Black has a fire-print shirt, tie-dye pants and a glittery fanny pack worn backwards. And then it all comes back to Weird Al Yankovic with a bright pink shirt that says "Tacky" and feels right out of the '80s.
"Tacky" is the first song and video from Weird Al's latest album, "Mandatory Fun." The album is released tomorrow, July 15. It features 12 new tracks from the satiric singer/song writer. It is his 14th studio album. Over his career he has sold over 12 million albums and has won three Grammy awards.
Weird Al has stated that since "Mandatory Fun" is his last album for his current record label, it may be the last album of this type. He stated he may pursue other endeavors or may just digitally distribute new songs himself.
The "Tacky" video is the first Weird Al is putting up this week, as part of his promotion "8 Videos 8 Days." Stay tuned for more parodies.
