San Diego Comic Con International starts next week, and it will have more than the usual comic book and film news. Two video game publishers, Square Enix and Deep Silver, have announced that they will be working together to create a nearby arcade featuring demos of their upcoming games.
Square Enix will feature Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, the sequel to isometric action game the Guardian of Light. There will also be gothic multiplayer game Nosgoth, a pseudo-sequel to the Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver series. On hand you will also find Hitman Go and Hitman: Sniper, mobile titles in the Hitman franchise. The company will also be reportedly showing the updated Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix and new mobile music title Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call at the Square Enix booth in the actual convention hall.
Deep Silver will also be showing off a variety of sequels at the SDCC arcade, including Dead Island-mystery game Escape Dead Island, the remastered bundle of first-person shooters/roleplaying games Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light called Metro Redux, and action RPG sequel Sacred 3.
Over the last decade, the San Diego Comic Con has moved beyond simply offering the booths of book publishers, comicbook makers and merchandise manufacturers. The film industry and television studios have been holding panels with big announcements. Likewise, video game publishers have offered demos and made announcements about new games. The convention has also grown in attendance, to about 130,000 attendees last year.
San Diego Comic Con will be taking place at the San Diego Convention Center from July 24 to July 27. Other videogame exhibitors include Activision (Call of Duty, Skylanders Trap Team), Bandai Namco (Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn, Sword Art Online), Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft, Hearthstone), Capcom (Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Monster Hunter 4), Konami (Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain), Microsoft (Halo: Master Chief Collection), Nintendo (Super Smash Bros.), Ubisoft (Assassin's Creed Unity, The Division) and Warner Bros. (Batman Arkham Knight, Mad Max).
The arcade will be held at the Whiskey Girl restaurant on Friday July 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m local time, technically to Saturday, July 26. The arcade and the game demos will be open to the public.
