This Battle-Friendly Foam Lightsaber With Lights And Sound Effects Is The Safe Alternative To The Plastic Toys

After watching the new footage that was featured in the Japanese trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we can hardly wait to get our Star Wars gear out and head over to the theater next month. However, since select movie theaters are banning lightsabers, it's better to participate in live-action role-play from the safety of our own homes.

While the plastic options prevent us from making some real contact when battling the dark force or wind up injuring a Jedi or Sith in the process, other foam options just aren't realistic enough for our cosplay needs.

Luckily, a company known for its high-quality foam weapons for role-play is developing a battle-friendly foam lightsaber that still is equipped with lights and sound effects.

The company behind the foam lightsabers, Calimacil, launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring this safe alternative to the hands of cosplayers.

Calimacil's lightsaber is made from a special foam that is indestructible, so you can hit or smash anything without the device ever breaking. It has a realistic mold with professional paint, making it feel like a real Jedi weapon.

The company made improvements to develop a new technology that can enable both light and sound. That means the lighsaber actually glows, changes colors and uses algorithms to detect different sounds depending on whether the Star Wars fan is swaying the toy in the air or actually making contact with an opponent.

The lights can be customized using your smartphone via Bluetooth, so you can change the blade's colors to red, blue, green or orange or create a visual plasma effect.

Calimacil also developed its very own motion board to create light patterns and sound effects, which can open games and training modes to enhance the experience.

There are multiple lightsaber options available on the company's Kickstarter page, with fans able to get their hands on the Basic Plasma Blue or Red that can be preordered for $275 and will ship May of next year. This option has 35 watts of power, comes with the basic handle and blade and an external battery charger.

Those who pledge $500 can get the Master Plasma RGB & Sounds option, with access to all the colors, effects and gaming and training modes, along with the master handle, belt clip and mobile app.

Calimacil has raised over $19,000 of its $38,259 goal, with 26 days left in the campaign.
