Finland is the first country to launch its own set of emoji that clearly depicts its finer points, which consists of the tough Nokia 3310, a head-banging death metal fan and sauna Finland style (meaning people in their birthday suits).
Art Director Bruno Leo Ribeiro is the man behind the Finnish emoji. The three released images are just three out of a set of 30 and are part of a Christmas calendar, which will be published by Finland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. When December comes, one new emoji after another will be revealed until Dec. 30, gradually making the set complete.
"The emojis used especially by young people have revolutionised communications in the same way as the invention of the text message. Emojis are used to communicate visually rather than verbally, and that suits Finns," Petra Theman, director for public diplomacy, says in a press release.
On an interesting note, the post on the country's website ThisisFINLAND describes each of the three emoji accurately and humorously. The Nokia 3310 is titled as "The Unbreakable" and the sauna is as "Finnish as it gets. Naked." On the other hand, the website explains that "there's a headbanger living inside of each Finn."
"We have been anything but serious when creating these emojis. Hopefully they will open up not only our weirdness but also our strengths of which unarming honesty is one example," Theman says on ThisisFINLAND.
It seems that a lot more people will get to know how the Finns do things once the upcoming calendar goes official.
For a Finnish Christmas this year, this is the calendar you need. It'll be available in 13 languages, which includes Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Polish and Spanish, to name a few. The downloadable Finnish calendar will be up soon, where all pieces of evidence suggest a December release, and it will also be available on ThisisFINLAND social media channels.
