Publications are currently filled with news regarding Fallout 4 and its upcoming release on Nov. 10. In the course of reporting about the upcoming action video game, however, some pretty interesting details were revealed regarding The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Bethesda Game Studios, the game developer behind the The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchise, was in the middle of its development of Fallout 4 while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was in its last legs. This was prior to the release of both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and thus, the development team was practically working on it without the console hardware that the title will be released on.
And although a constant line of communication was kept between Bethesda, Sony and Microsoft to ensure that Fallout 4 will have no problems running on eighth generation consoles, the developer did not want to rush the launch of Fallout 4 as a title and wanted more time to gather data before development for the new console hardware can commence.
According to game informer Andrew Reiner, when he visited Bethesda last month, Todd Howard, a game designer of Bethesda Game Studios and a member of the Fallout 4 development team, revealed to him that in order to gather data for Fallout 4's development on Xbox One, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was ported.
"The first thing we did was port Skyrim to Xbox One," Howard told Reiner. "Don't get your hopes up yet."
As Reiner noted in his write-up, the Xbox One port for Skyrim is "purely an exercise" for the team to "understand the new hardware faster." Moreover, Reiner commented that he is led to believe that nothing was "brewing" for Skyrim when the game designer divulged the Xbox One port.
Needless to say, some gamers love the idea of Skyrim getting ported to the Xbox One while others would rather have a new installment for the The Elder Scrolls game series.
