Bentley Introduces Face-Scanning, Emotion-Reading App

Talk about rich people's problems.

Let's say you have the $220,000-plus to plop down on a new Bentley Bentayga SUV, but don't know how to customize it. Well, the automaker has a luxury commissioning experience especially built for you.

Bentley has introduced its Inspirator app, which scans would-be owners faces and gauges their emotional peaks to customize a brand new Bentayga. Available for iPhone and the iPad, the ad for the Inspirator app shows a variety of footage, ranging from skydiving to wholesome family memories, sailboat vacationing on a beautiful blue sea, being fitted for a tailored suit and even an equestrian event.

As you're watching the footage, the app's facial recognition reads all of your emotional responses, using them to customize your new Bentayga, generating possibilities including everything from a rich, metallic bronze exterior to 21-inch five-twin spoke alloy wheels that are painted black and diamond turned.

The ad for the Inspirator ends with Bentley imploring potential buyers to "Experience the extraordinary."

According to Ad Week, VML London powered the Inspirator app, using emotion algorithms and data from 3.4 million faces across 75 countries for pinpoint precision. The same website reports that the ultraluxury automaker will soon make the technology available for more of its vehicles.

Even if you fall in the 99 percent who probably can't afford a Bentley Bentayga, using the Inspirator app and seeing if it manages to cater to your tastes might be interesting. After all, that might be the closest us regular folks get to an ultraluxury vehicle like this.

The Bentayga is billed as the world's fastest SUV, able to hit speeds up to 187 mph.
