It's Morphin Time! Original Power Rangers Names Will be Used In Movie After All

Go, go, Power Rangers! We have got some phenomenal news for Earth from Lionsgate and Saban. The 2017 "Power Rangers" film has not only finally found its Yellow Ranger in the singer, songwriter, rapper and actress, Becky Gomez, better known as Becky G, it has also announced the names of the new Rangers. Start speculating on the plot because our new Rangers have the same name as the original 1993 "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" from Angel Grove: Jason, Billy, Zack, Kimberly and Trini.

The Power Rangers official twitter account tweeted the announcement on Oct. 30.

Now it really makes us wonder what Haim Saban, Director Dean Israelite and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller has in store for Power Rangers fans, both from the new series and the 1993 original. All we know for sure is that there is some form of continuity with the original series and that it will not be a complete reboot.

In a 2014 interview, Executive Producer for the film, Roberto Orci said that he already discussed the film with creator Haim Saban and was given a specific instruction for the film. "It better be consistent with what I've been doing," Saban told Orci. With that, the fans can be sure that, whatever Power Rangers team they began watching throughout the years, they will be able to pick up the film's plot and have a reasonable understanding of it.

What about Tommy, though? Jason David Frank could well be the most iconic of the Power Rangers since he's been with the show from Season One of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and still saves the world as the Green Ranger from time to time with the new Ranger Teams.

One thing is for sure: since Israelite grew up with the original Power Rangers and he was surprised and excited by how the plot was updated for the film, it is most likely a film that the fans can really look forward to seeing.

"Power Rangers" is set to morph in cinemas on January 13, 2017.
