Google Glass app taps mind control, lets users shoot a picture using just a thought

Mind control devices have always been a thing of science fiction, but a new Google Glass app is changing that perception just a bit.

The new app is also changing the way users can take pictures and it's all with just a thought. Google believes this innovation will help spur even more interest in the controversial Glass headwear.

The new app is MindRDR and requires the use of a MindWave Mobile headset ($79.99). Users also have to purchase the NeuroSky EEG sensor that pairs with Glass and helps to deliver mind controlled options. While it does means wearing two devices simultaneously, it is the beginning of what had previously only been a pipe dream.

The new app will allow a user to take a photo and send it directly to Facebook simply by concentrating or relaxing to get the job done. The developers are continuing to work on the app, and while it only allows the photo to be taken at present, they hope to be able to get the mind to be typing in the near future.

With Google Glass being launched across the globe - the United Kingdom getting the device last month - the development of new apps for the wearable tech seems to be hitting stride.

Although Google has not spoken directly regarding MindRDR, a spokesperson did say Google is keen to look into the app and see how it functions.

"Of course, we are always interested in hearing about new applications of Glass and we've already seen some great research from a variety of medical fields from surgery to Parkinson's," the spokesperson said.

"Google Glass cannot read your mind," the spokesperson added.

Either way, Google Glass, despite its ongoing controversy, is getting some much needed app attention and this "mind control" concept could be a litmus test for future innovations with the product in order to propel it further in the minds of the general population.
