Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sent a memo to all of the company's employees, with the subject "Starting FY15 - Bold Ambition & Our Core."
Nadella's memo appeared to be laying the groundwork for significant changes coming to the company.
Nadella begins his memo by thanking all Microsoft employees for their contribution in the past financial year. Nadella already hints about the "fundamental cultural changes" that he believes that the company needs to undergo, which would be announced in more detail after Microsoft releases its earnings for the just ended quarter on July 22.
Nadella believes that Microsoft has a unique opportunity within the current mobile-first and cloud-first world. With over 3 billion people soon getting on to Internet-connected devices, Nadella says that the company's customers and the rest of society have expectations of Microsoft to maximize technology's worth while preserving timeless values.
"Our passion is to enable people to thrive in this mobile-first and cloud-first world," Nadella writes.
Nadella then describes how Microsoft will be making the transition from a "devices and services" company, which helped started Microsoft's transformation, into a "productivity and platform" company, which, simply, helps people to get things done.
Nadella challenges Microsoft's employees to reinvent productivity, so that every person and organization in the modern world can be empowered to do more things and achieve more goals.
Every user should be considered as a "dual user," Nadella says, as the user will be using technology for both school or work and their personal digital lives. And as the demands of users grow, Microsoft will focus and build great digital work and life experiences.
Nadella envisions Microsoft's services to soon become more connected with each other in a way that is both more contextual and more personal for the user.
Nadella also sees the company's Azure cloud OS as the biggest opportunity that Microsoft currently has, as the partnership of Azure and Windows Server makes Microsoft the only company that has a public, private and hybrid platform for the cloud that can be used as a foundation for modern businesses.
The Windows device OS, along with first-party hardware, will look to deliver rich and consistent digital experiences, with the company continuing to invest in the operating system to make it the most secure, capable and manageable OS in the market.
Nadella also stresses the importance of the Xbox to the company, tagging it as one of the consumer brands that is currently most revered in the industry.
"Microsoft will continue to vigorously innovate and delight gamers with Xbox," promises Nadella.
Nadella concludes his memo by focusing on the culture that he wants at Microsoft.
"I am committed to making Microsoft the best place for smart, curious, ambitious people to do their best work," Nadella writes, focusing on changes in how employees treat the company's customers and themselves.
"With the courage to transform individually, we will collectively transform this company and seize the great opportunity ahead," Nadella ends.
