Microsoft Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL Get Further Price Cuts In Europe Before Retail Launch

The Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL powerhouses just got notable price cuts in France, following similar discounts in the UK.

Just recently, word came out that Microsoft's latest Windows 10 flagship smartphones dropped their price in the UK before even going up for preorder. France is now next in line to cut the prices of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, with both smartphones now available for preorder at lower prices on Amazon France.

The Lumia 950 is now available for preorder at €562 (about $619), marking a 6 percent price cut from the original price of €599 (roughly $660). The larger Lumia 950 XL, meanwhile, is now available for preorder at €649 (about $715), marking a 7 percent discount compared to its original price of €699 (about $700). The prices are for the unlocked models of the smartphones.

The new prices for the two smartphones in France are now lower than in other European regions, where they went up for preorder last week. In Italy, for instance, the Lumia 950 still costs €599 and the Lumia 950 XL goes up to €699. The handsets will start shipping on Nov. 27 in Italy and Dec. 3 in the UK, but there is no shipping date yet for the models in France.

As a reminder, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are Microsoft's high-end smartphone offerings and come with plenty of bells and whistles to make them worthy of the flagship title.

The Lumia 950 is the smaller of the pair, featuring a 5.2-inch display, while the Lumia 950 XL phablet offers more screen real estate with a 5.7-inch display. The Lumia 950 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, while the Lumia 950 XL has the more powerful Snapdragon 810, complete with Microsoft's Liquid Cooling technology to ensure it doesn't overheat.

Both the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL come with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of built-in storage capacity expandable via microSD, 20-megapixel main cameras with Carl Zeiss optics, triple LED flash and dedicated camera buttons among the highlights.

The two Lumia flagships also promise advanced features and functionality thanks to the latest Windows 10 OS, which will even enable the handsets to serve as mini PCs through its neat Continuum feature.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL have stirred great interest since their debut and received mostly positive reviews, which leads fans to believe the handsets will be successful. On the other hand, the price cuts ahead of launch also raise questions of whether they're meant to counter the weak initial demand for the smartphones.
