Police officers have arrested a second teenager in the TalkTalk hacking incident that took place a week prior. The teen was reportedly released on bail and is scheduled to return to court.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested at Feltham, west London, just days after a 15-year-old was detained in Northern Ireland in connection with the same attack on TalkTalk, where valuable customer data got stolen.
Detectives issued a search warrant at the teenager's address, but the officers did not reveal if anything substantial was found. It may take a while before the press finds out what has been located at the address, as the police officers will need time to go through all the possible evidence.
The bank stated that information on its 4 million customers was accessed, but it is not yet certain as to what extent.
"A criminal investigation was launched by the Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit following a significant and sustained cyber-attack on our website. We are continuing to work with leading cybercrime specialists and the Metropolitan Police to establish exactly what happened and the extent of any information accessed," said TalkTalk.
The teenager from Northern Ireland was recently arrested under the suspicion that he broke the Computer Misuse Act. He was taken into custody while officers performed a thorough search of his house.
Police officers also confirmed that a search was carried out at a Liverpool address, though there's no word yet if anyone or any form of evidence was found at the location.
We understand that after the hack, the attackers have asked for £80,000 in bitcoin. If these boys are found guilty of hacking and the attempt to gain money from TalkTalk, they could be on the verge of spending many years behind bars. They are not the first to do something like this, and we are 100 percent sure they will not be the last.
