In a bid to attract more users and advertisers into its platform, Snapchat is incorporating extra ways to be more creative. Snapchat on Wednesday, Oct. 28, has begun rolling out a new functionality which allows users to fast-forward, slow down or even rewind videos.
Dubbed Speed Modifiers, this particular feature functions akin to filters, but for video. Upon capturing a video, users only need to swipe across the screen until they land on the Speed Modifier option.
How The New Feature Works
Here's how the new functionality works:
Slow-Motion: It decreases the speed of a particular video so viewers can catch small details.
Fast-Forward: This makes a particular video play faster. This is specifically useful if users wish to create comic effects.
Rewind: With this feature, users can play their videos back at similar speeds but in reverse.
3D Touch Capability
It is worth noting that the updated version of Snapchat has incorporated 3D Touch capabilities for Apple's newest devices, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Users will simply need to deep press the Snapchat icon to directly add or chat a friend from their contacts with the use of the app's dropdown menu.
In September, Snapchat unveiled its animated selfie filters, called Lenses. The feature arose as a result of Snapchat's acquisition of Looksery, a Ukrainian startup with expertise in appending live animated effects into videos. This powered Snapchat's new Lenses feature, allowing users to use animated selfie masks to make the users' face look like an angel, robot, fish or a bug-eyed person barfing rainbows.
It was reported earlier this month that the company was looking into sponsored Lenses. Alongside the launching of this feature, the company also announced the ability to pay for replays.
In the past, Snapchat added light filters, drawings, text and options to cover the time, speed or temperature. Additionally, location-based geofilters were also introduced. Snapchat likewise added an emoji button so users can resize and place emojis on snaps.
In the meantime, it has to be noted that the new update to the application is designed for iOS and Android devices. It seems, though, that the features are not yet live, according to reports. The Snapchat app can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play or App Store.
