The ongoing saga of UConn Mac "N Cheese Bro Luke Gatti has just gotten even more bizarre. The victim of Gatti's recent tirade, who is now living in South America, has rejected the student's YouTube apology, instead demanding that he buy a plane ticket and apologize in person.
To recap the events so far, former UConn student Luke Gatti attacked food court manager David Robinson in an obscenity-laced tirade that ended with his pushing the employee and summarily being tackled by another food court worker before being arrested by police.
The video of Gatti's lengthy and somewhat amusing drunken antics over his impassioned but rejected request for "mac 'n cheese with bacon and jalapenos," went viral, with millions of YouTube views. A-list actor Justin Theroux even parodied the student in a widely viewed Jimmy Kimmel skit shortly after the incident.
Several days later, Gatti recorded and uploaded a new YouTube video in which he appeared to offer a sincere apology to the workers involved, as well as the UConn student body, and his friends and family, whom he said he disappointed.
Following the apology, Bill MacKay, the food court worker who tackled Gatti to the ground after he pushed Robinson, wrote a strange, rambling letter to the UConn campus newspaper in which he first claimed to forgive Gatti, blamed social media for the viral nature of the situation, and then offered the student and readers a lengthy, unsolicited lecture on religion, technology, the military and other philosophical musings related to the incident, which he had initially pledged not to mention further.
Now, another odd letter has been published in the UConn "Daily Campus", courtesy of the other food court worker involved, David Robinson, who clearly rejects Gatti's apology, but claims he is "neither accepting nor rejecting an apology" because it isn't really an apology at all. "I saw the video you posted on your YouTube channel", writes Robinson." You sat on a comfy chair in a comfy den in a comfy home and spoke to a camera. Was I in that room? Have you reached out to me directly? A heartfelt apology is directed at a human being in their presence."
Robinson , now living in South America, then explains the reason for his departure while congratulating himself for his selflessness. "I am living with my in-laws and volunteering at a local school teaching English. I chose to sacrifice a decent paying job and a comfortable life to help my wife recover and to take care of her ailing father," he proclaims.
He then promises to be the bigger man and accept Gatti's apology-- as long as he jumps on a plane and visits Robinson in person. "Buy a plane ticket, come visit, and then you can apologize in person, the way it should be done. If you do these things, I will gladly accept your apology", he writes.
We doubt that a trip to Robinsons apparently non-"comfy" current abode is in the cards for Gatti , however, as he is due in court on Nov.3 to face charges related to the incident. We have no word on whether Robinson will accept an apology from Gatti via Skype, but if he does, it appears as if Robinson will require Gatti to sit outside on a bed of nails while doing so.
