Someone's got to play the second fiddle, right? Motorola and Verizon promised Droids at today's New York City event, and the companies certainly delivered in that plurality, spending most of the time talking up the Turbo 2, in all of its shatterproof splendor.
The Maxx 2 took a back seat, but all said, it's not such a bad little phone. Sure, you shouldn't go dropping it on any cinderblocks in your immediate vicinity, but otherwise the handset packs a number of the key features found in its more lauded sibling.
First of all, there's the 48 hours of battery life—impressive by any measure, and certainly enough to warrant the second "X" in Maxx. That can be topped off quickly, with an estimated 8 hours of battery life available after a 15-minute charge.
There's also a 21-megapixel camera on the rear, plus a microSD slot for additional storage.
No MotoMaker here, but Motorola is offering a number of replaceable backs, which can be snapped off by squeezing your fingernails between the backing and the metal frame.
The Maxx doesn't feel quite as premium as the Turbo, owing to a lower-res display and materials that just aren't quite as solid, but it does retain Motorola's signature design elements, including a rounded back and the metal landing strip on the rear.
All said, however, it's a hard sell put up against the Turbo, unquestionably the nicer of the two devices. And what's an additional $10 a month between friends?
