The Xbox One's most talked-about feature finally has an arrival date: Nov. 12.
That's the day the New Xbox One Experience will release for all Xbox One users, and along with it will come the long-awaited Xbox 360 backwards compatibility.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced the news during Microsoft's digital Halo 5 event via YouTube. More than 100 Xbox 360 games will work on the Xbox One when the feature launches on Nov. 12, with Microsoft promising to regularly update the list of supported titles.
Currently, players will be able to enjoy games like Mass Effect, Halo Reach, Borderlands and Gears of War. It was confirmed on Monday, Oct. 26, that yet another game will soon be joining the list in the form of the racing title Burnout Paradise.
While backwards compatibility is the talk of the town, the new dashboard interface isn't too shabby, either. Microsoft is looking to speed up overall performance by using a simplified dashboard inspired by Windows 10. If you've used the Xbox app on Windows 10 you'll know what to expect, though there will be a number of improvements. The OneGuide function on the console will be getting an overhaul, and Microsoft says popular gaming apps will load up to 50 percent faster. No more waiting for up to a minute for your snapped achievement app to load.
A more social-friendly community section, as well as a retooled online store, will also come with the update. Many Xbox preview members are already using the new dashboard, though it hasn't been without its fair share of bugs. All preview members will soon be swapped over to the New Xbox One Experience before the update goes live for all users on Nov. 12.
