Acer has announced its new C720 Chromebook at a price tag of $249.99 and the device is the first to include Intel's Haswell technology in a Chromebook.
The Taiwanese company was one of the first companies to launch a Chromebook and on Thursday, October 10, the company also announced its latest C720 Chromebook, which sports an Intel Celeron processor with Haswell technology.
"The Acer C720 is a significant step forward for our highly-acclaimed Acer Chromebook line, as it delivers speedy performance, quick boot times, a matte anti-glare display and a slimmer design that is portable enough for anywhere use," said Arif Maskatia, chief technology officer, Acer America. "These key advances allow families and students to continue collaborating, learning and playing in exciting ways, all while staying secure since Chrome OS includes multiple layers of protection from online threats."
Acer claims that the third-generation C720 Chromebook is 30 percent thinner and also lighter than its predecessor. It also sports an anti-glare display that reduces reflection for a better visual experience and for outdoor use. The company also confirms the boot time of the device as seven seconds.
The Acer C720 Chromebook includes impressive features in its category. The latest Acer device touts an 11.6-inch HD Widescreen ComfyView LED-backlit display 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. The C720 also features 16GB SSD Drive and 4GB of RAM.
The device also includes Bluetooth 4.0, built-in HD webcam, two built-in stereo speakers and a USB 3.0 port. It also features a USB 2.0 port, a HDMI port, full-size Acer FineTip Keyboard and multi-gesture touchpad. The C720 weighs only 2.76lb and is just 0.75-inch thick.
Google and HP have recently announced the Chromebook 11 with an ARM processor, which is available for $279. However, the Chromebook 11 has a quoted battery life of six hours only.
Acer's press announcement confirms that the C720 Chromebook is available for pre-order from Amazon and Best Buy at a suggested retail price of $249.99. The device will also be available from Acer stores from October. Unfortunately, the company did not confirm an exact release date for the Chromebook.
