With just over two weeks until the release of NBA 2K16, the highly anticipated title is definitely laying it on thick with the features.
In its newest trailer, 2K showcases commentary from Shaquille O'Neal, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith — sounding just as authentic as they appear on TNT's Inside the NBA broadcasts. Although Charles Barkley is noticeably missing from the desk, 2K more than manages to flex its muscle with this trailer.
The clip has the trio providing pre-game analysis in addition to breaking down footage via halftime and post-game shows. In one sequence, Johnson gives a play-by-play of halftime highlights between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets – who met in this past Western Conference Finals – with O'Neal and Smith chiming in.
"These guys know they can win, but I think that it's important, Ernie and Kenny, that they push the pace," O'Neal says.
Adds Smith: "Don't think about sweeps and brooms and all of the fans throwing things up in the air."
Just as hoop fans see on Inside The NBA during the regular season, the trailer has Shaq and "The Jet" trading barbs — with O'Neal telling Smith he has a "baby mustache" and the former guard returning fire, joking about the ex-center's "extra big teeth."
The trailer even includes a segment called "Shaqknowlogies," in which the four-time NBA champion shows off his nimble yet foolish verbiage and thoughts, including a story in which he tells Johnson how he actually took a bull by the horns, bringing the adage to life.
This looks and sounds to be another reason why NBA 2K16 – slated for a September 29 release – will be a hit.
