Microsoft's new Xbox console is now already under development, the Federal Trade Commission seemingly confirmed in its new publication.

It has been more than two years since the Xbox Series X and S gaming consoles first saw the light of day. And this time, it looks like the Redmond-based firm is now working on another console, which might be the next-generation offering.

So as early as now, Microsoft seems to be busy developing the potential rival of the Sony PlayStation 6.

Xbox New Gaming Console

According to a report by Game Rant, Microsoft is currently keeping its hands busy to work on the next-generation gaming console, which should succeed the current Xbox Series X and S.

In fact, the console, which looks to be under development already has a codename, a recent regulatory filing suggests.

The revelation came straight from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which brought Microsoft to court to block the looming acquisition of Activision Blizzard over antitrust concerns.

A new document from the FTC seemingly confirmed that Microsoft already has the next-generation Xbox console in its pipeline.

ComicBook.com notes that the revelation comes amid the ongoing investigation of the plan of Microsoft to buy the developer of Call of Duty games, Activision Blizzard.

The new Microsoft Xbox One S console is announced during the Microsoft Xbox news conference at the E3 Gaming Conference on June 13, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. The One S is slated to launch in August.

The document requests information regarding the next-generation Xbox console of Microsoft, pertaining to it using its temporary moniker.

It specifically asks for "documents relations to" the next-generation gaming system of Microsoft. It further notes that the console is part of the "forward-looking strategy for its console, subscription, and cloud gaming businesses."

New Xbox Codename

The documentation even further mentioned the codename of the next-generation gaming system of Microsoft. However, the public copy redacted the codename of the console.

Despite that, Game Rant notes that it seems to have at least 15 characters. The gaming news outlet further adds that the length of its moniker suggests that it could contain two words.

It is worth noting that the current-generation Xbox also sported its code names before it debuted in 2020. The Xbox Series S carries the moniker "Lockhart," whereas the Xbox Series X was named Anaconda. But besides these separate codenames, the ninth-generation lineup sported a collective codename, "Project Scarlett."

Microsoft has been consistently giving its console provisionary names while it is still working on it. For instance, the Xbox 360 rocked the Project Natal nickname.

With that, the codename in the FTC document could likely be the collective codename of the tenth-generation Xbox console. But do take this with a grain of salt as the codename has been redacted in the documentation.
