A new rumor is popping out regarding certain Xbox 360 games that could make their way to the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X/S with the help of backward compatibility. Although just a rumor, this news could excite fans since it would give them access to more games.

Rumor Says Microsoft Could Bring Another Batch of 360 Games to Its List of Backward Compatible Titles

According to the story by Comic Book, for a long time, Microsoft has been trying to bring backward compatibility to different original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles. Along the way, the amount of compatible titles has increased from a few games to a whole selection.

Despite its progress, Microsoft decided to stop adding backward compatibility to more titles but an ongoing rumor is suggesting that Microsoft could resume adding newer Xbox 360 titles. The rumor was released by Nick Baker, the host of XboxEra Podcast.

XboxEra Podcast Says Another Final Batch of Backward Compatible Games Could Happen

Nick Baker was able to give accurate insider information in the past related to the Xbox. As per the XboxEra Podcast, "Microsoft could be planning one final batch of backward compatible games to bring to Xbox Series X and Xbox One platforms."

Titles to be Added Could Specifically Associated with Activision Blizzard

Baker noted that the games would be specifically associated with Activision Blizzard. The backward compatibility for the new batch of titles is expected to happen after Microsoft's acquisition of the publisher.

Baker, however, did not give any specifics regarding which titles will be making their way to the newer platforms with the help of backward compatibility. It was noted that Microsoft's ownership of Activision Blizzard would result in licensing becoming much easier.

Titles Not Included Could be Those Associated with Marvel Due to Licensing Deals

As per Baker, another group of games that will most likely not be part of the Xbox backward compatible additions is the titles that are associated with Marvel. Throughout the Xbox 360 era, Activision has reportedly published multiple games like "Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and more.

The article notes that Baker stressed that those games will likely not be playable on the current Xbox hardware due to problems with licensing. Based on what has been seen with Microsoft in the past when it comes to backward compatibility, it looks like the games of Activision from the Xbox 360 era would likely be added to the lineup.

Xbox Series X Still has Limited Exclusive Titles with Most Playable Games Being Backward Compatible

Backward compatibility has been extremely useful for the Xbox Series X due to the fact that only a few exclusive or new games have been added to the console. With backward compatibility, the Xbox Series X is capable of playing older titles.

Although Xbox One games backward compatibility is expected, the same cannot be said with the Xbox 360 since it was launched further before the Xbox One was ever released.
