Microsoft Edge is now the second most popular browser for desktop users.

According to data provided by StatCounter, Microsoft's desktop browser is now the second most used desktop browser around the globe. The data suggests that 10.07% of computers globally have been using it.

Macrumors reports that 9.61% of the computers are reportedly relying on Apple's Safari browser. Meanwhile, the Google Chrome browser sits at a comfortable spot with a 66.64% share.

Over the previous months, Microsoft has been serious about upgrading the Edge browser for the users. It's indeed tough competition in the field of browsing technology, but the Redmond giant managed to surpass the expectations of every consumer.

Back in February, the company knew that it had the potential to overtake Safari in its second spot. It was evident in the January market share when Apple's desktop browser only garnered 10.38% market share-- proof that it was slowly dropping in popularity.

However, the same thing won't be said to Chrome as it consistently makes waves across the planet. Over time, the usage rate for this browser only keeps on increasing.

Meanwhile, Mozilla has rolled out necessary updates and developments for its Firefox browser. Still, it's not enough to put it in the top three spots of the world's famous desktop browsers.

If Apple wants to dethrone Microsoft Edge in its current position, it should release a major set of changes later this year. Probably, it could focus on introducing the new Safari mechanics in macOS 13 soon.

Speaking of mobile browsers, Microsoft Edge looks incomplete, especially with the departure of Windows Mobile. StatCounter says it's not included in the top six mobile browsers this year.

Again, Google Chrome managed to shatter the barriers regarding usage share as it posted 62.87%. Safari has placed in the second spot thanks to its 25.35% usage share. Surprisingly, Samsung Internet managed to achieve third place with a 4.9% share.

Chrome Remains to be the Most Dominant Browser

On mobile and desktop, Google Chrome displays a stellar performance. It's evident that it's very popular since it has a combined 64.36% usage share on both platforms.

It should be noted that Safari lands in second place in overall usage rate in the said platforms while Microsoft Edge is behind in the third spot.

In the past years, we assumed that Safari fell behind the Edge browser because of its annoying bugs. Additionally, people also complain about its website compatibility and user experience.

To address the issue, Apple launched a new design of the browser and other features. However, it reverted them back and re-launched the final browser version in September 2021.

If you want to steer away from mainstream choices, Gizmodo suggests you check other browsers, including Vivaldi, Brave, Opera, Tor, and more.
