Two officials have been sacked as per the investigation into their doings when government staff used a garbage truck to ship a bulk load of pork for human consumption, local authorities have stated.

The Public Outcry and Demand for Justice

Residents from the Yuanlin community of Qingshan district were almost in a frenzy to find out that the pork that they have purchased from the government stores were delivered via a garbage truck last Wednesday, Mar. 12. According to the investigation, the two government officials were in charge of the distribution and logistics and giving the go signal for the delivery.

Aftermath, the public was outraged by the mere fact that they would even allow such gross misconduct on how poorly the decision was made to use the truck to deliver food that was to be served to the already suffering population of Wuhan.

What Went Down

The meat was packed into plastic bags that contained about 1,000 portions that were blown open onto the ground and then handed out to the paying customers. This was from users from Weibo, China's Twitter version that the food itself most probably might be contaminated because of the means of how it was delivered and the unsanitary way it was given out.

Here is a photo that was shared, the bags were clearly seen being dumped from a dirty-old truck onto a massive plastic sheet just there on the side of the road. Several workers as well were stepping on the sheet to count the bags that were placed.

Why Was It Handled Like This?

As Wuhan is basically on lockdown, the government has been in charge of the food delivery for the city late January. This is in hopes to deter the need for citizens to go out of their houses and shop for their food, but due to this new way of delivery, residents are now more careful than ever of what they put into their stomachs.

When Will The Lockdown End?

The residents of China are still under lockdown in an indefinite time, which is obviously due to the coronavirus pandemic and country's aim to keep its people safe and to deter the spread of the virus. The quarantine is working as the stats given by the Chinese officials disclosed that the number of new cases mid-February was about 4,000 a day compared to now, only eight were confirmed new cases on Wednesday.

Luo Ron, deputy head of Qingshan district, was under investigation, which the city's discipline commission said on Thursday.
