Samsung prepares the imminent launch of two new affordable smartphones: Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7, having the model numbers SM-G550 and SM-G600. The former names of the handsets were Galaxy Mega On and Galaxy Grand On.
Official images and specs of the two devices are now public and will catch the eye of photography enthusiasts, due to their camera sensors and decent pricing. It is not the first phone release from Samsung India, neither.
Earlier this week, the Indian market saw the launch of the Samsung Z3 handset, at a price of Rs.8.490, which is about $130.
Just as the Samsung Z3, models Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7 are part of the "Make in India" campaign, which is meant to encourage the local production and selling of electronic devices.
Even if they differ in size, the two smartphones have a lot of common features.
The quad-core Exynos 3475 processor, running at 1.3GHz powers each handset. Both phones sport 1.5 GB RAM and an internal storage space of 8 GB, but a microSD card can enhance that capacity. Android Lollipop OS comes to both devices, alongside LTE and a 5 MP front-facing camera, with an f/2.2 aperture. Samsung fans might recognize this as the selfie-camera from the Galaxy J5 model.
The Super AMOLED screens of the smartphones are identical in resolution, but different in size. The On5 is the smaller device, with a 5-inch, 720p display, whereas the On7 is slightly larger and has a 5.5-inch 720p panel. Rear cameras also offer some variation between the models. The On5 features an 8 MP camera, with f/2.1 aperture and LED flash, while the On7 has a larger camera sensor of 13 MP, the aperture and LED flash is the same with On5.
Another different aspect is the battery size: the Galaxy ON 5, being tinier, has a 2,600mAh battery while the ON 7 is equipped with a 3,000mAh battery.
The price tags for the Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7 are estimated at about $154 and $199, which is about Rs.10.000 and Rs.13.000, respectively.
The connectivity possibilities for the On5 and On7 are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, MicroUSB 2.0, 4G LTE and GPS/A-GPS.
The Mix Radio app will come installed with a lifetime subscription, free of charge. Also, the recently launched My Galaxy app will be pre-installed on the handsets.
An official release date for the Samsung On5 and the Samsung On7 is expected by the end of October.
