Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Will Feature Larger Display, Increased Battery Life, Stronger Processor, 3D Camera And More: Report

A new report indicates the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is expected to sport some significant upgrades when released. These features include a larger display, increased battery life, a more powerful processor and an Intel RealSense 3D camera.

We've been reporting on the various rumors and expectations surrounding Microsoft's upcoming Surface Pro 4 tablet, and while the specs, release date, and even the existence of the tablet itself has not yet been confirmed by Microsoft, experts and tech pundits have been hypothesizing on the details of the new tablet, with an official announcement expected imminently for a potential October release.

A new report indicates several features expected to be included in the Surface Pro 4. The first, as we reported recently, is the use of a new processor. Intel recently revealed its new Skylake processor at IFA and the chipset is tipped to power the Surface Pro 4. In fact, some have speculated that Microsoft specifically delayed the introduction of the Surface Pro 4 in order to include Skylake. Another theory is that Microsoft will use Broadwell chips in order to design the new tablet without a fan, making it lighter, thinner and quieter than its predecessor. Skylake, however, would result in much better power and performance. Either processor choice will result in a key improvement in battery life for the new Surface Pro 4.

The Surface Pro 4 is also expected to include an Intel RealSense 3D camera, which will enable users to utilize Windows 10's new Hello facial recognition feature, allowing login without a password. We recently reported that the feature appears extremely accurate, and when tested using various sets of identical twins did not allow the registered user's identical siblings to gain access to their account.

The Surface Pro 4 is also expected to contain a larger display option, measuring around 14 inches. The tablet will definitely be available in its current size as well, as Microsoft has pledged to make size-sensitive accessories available for the current version of the Surface Pro compatible with future generations of the tablet.

Other features likely to be included in the new Surface Pro 4 are a fingerprint scanner and USB Type C ports. We'll know all of the confirmed new specs and inclusions when the tablet is officially announced.
