John McAfee, Antivirus Creator And Former Fugitive, Announces Plans To Run For US President

John McAfee, the creator of popular antivirus McAfee, plans to run for President of the United States in 2016.

McAfee is said to have filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday, Sept. 8. He will be founding a new "Cyber Party."

The entrepreneur confirmed his plans to run for president to CNN Money. He is confident of procuring votes from his followers. McAfee was also encouraged by many people regarding his decision to run.

"I have a huge underground following on the web," said McAfee. "I promise you I will win because I have the votes."

Questions were previously raised regarding McAfee's eligibility to contend for the presidency since he was born in the UK. However, the man is eligible because he was born in a U.S. Army base in the British Isles. His mother was of British descent, but his father was an American serviceman.

McAfee says that his campaign will be interesting. He also says that he does not want to follow other candidates and will not comment on them.

McAfee also thinks Donald Trump, another 2016 presidential candidate, is very smart and that Trump could win the election if McAfee does not enter the race.

McAfee believes that the U.S. government is currently broken because leaders do not understand technology well. He says the recent security compromise of the U.S. Homeland Security and Office of Personnel Management is proof.

"Things like this cannot happen or should not happen," said McAfee. "It's clear that the leadership of our country is illiterate on the fundamental technology that supports everything in life for us now, that is cyber science, our smartphones, our military hardware, our communications."

While McAfee is running for president, many Americans may not be aware that he has also been a fugitive. He was arrested in Guatemala in 2012 after fleeing from Belize, where local police wanted to question him regarding the murder of his neighbor. No charges have been made against McAfee in the murder case.

The McAfee campaign website has also gone live.
