Google has broadened the compatibility of its Gemini AI assistant, extending support to devices running Android 10 and Android 11. This move opens up more opportunities for users with older smartphones to experience Google's advanced AI functionalities.

If you are longing to use this chatbot, now is the time for your old devices to shine.

There's good news for Google chatbot users. If you own an Android 10 device, you can now use Gemini AI thanks to the expanded support.

Previously limited to newer operating systems, Google's Gemini AI, initially launched with support for Android 12 and above, is now accessible on devices running Android 10 and 11.

As 9to5Google, this expansion comes via the latest app updates, effectively lowering the minimum OS requirement and allowing a wider range of devices to benefit from Gemini's features.

Seamless Integration with Existing Technology

Users of Android 10 and 11 devices can now download and install the latest version of Gemini, v1.0.626720042, directly from the Google Play Store. This update ensures that the AI wizardry previously exclusive to users of the latest Android versions is now available to a broader audience, providing enhanced functionalities and a modernized user interface.

Gemini AI as Google Assistant Replacement

Phone Arena reports that the installation process for Gemini on supported older devices is straightforward. Users need to update their Google app and Play Services to the latest versions. Once updated, the Gemini AI assistant can be set up to replace the existing Google Assistant, offering a richer interaction experience with AI on their devices.

This compatibility update was first spotted by tech enthusiasts such as Sumanta Das on X and has since been verified on a Google Pixel phone running Android 10, confirming that the performance and features of Gemini AI mirror those on newer devices seamlessly.

Older Devices Getting AI is Now an Advantage

By allowing older Android devices to access Gemini and lowering the barrier to entry, Google is ensuring that more users can enjoy the latest innovations in AI, regardless of the age of their devices. This is a smart move in a year already dubbed "the AI year," following major AI integrations across various devices and platforms.

The best part about getting Google's Gemini comes with real-time responses. Only rumored last April 22, Tech Times reported that this upgrade will show the output of the chatbot in real-time.

With this, users can ditch the waiting time for the response to be complete before they see any output. Additionally, this will make Gemini more natural and closer to human-like conversations.

It is expected that Gemini will someday compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT despite Google being a lesser-known AI pioneer. The issue regarding the chatbot became even worse when it displayed "historical inaccuracies" that startled the experts.
