Discord rumors that suggest the platform's impending shutdown this year are currently circulating online. Some users believe that the days for the voice-chat platform are already numbered while others think that it won't close anytime soon.

The reports came following the temporary closure of Discord.io, the third-party site of the app. It's been a while since it is again bombarded by misconceptions.

Several rumors online say that 2023 is the last year we're seeing Discord, but are they true?

According to PCMag, Discord.io has announced that it was hit by a "major data breach" on Tuesday, Aug. 15. The platform said that there was a hacker who downloaded some private information from the database.

"We were made aware of the breach later on in the day, and after confirming the content of the breach, we decided to shut down all services and operations," Discord.io said in an announcement.

As per the report, the hacker codenamed "Akhirah" believes that Discord.io has "alleged" connections to child exploitation. Because of this, the person was driven to perform the act of stealing sensitive information owned by 760,000 Discord.io users.

To avoid any similar incidents in the future, Discord.io urges users to change their passwords stored on other websites.

Indefinite Shutdown of Discord.io

With the data breach obtaining lots of confidential data online, Discord.io has decided to stop all the existing operations indefinitely.

According to TechRadar, Discord.io is now reaching out to Akhirah to stop selling the entire database to an outsider.

The latest security threat has prompted the third-party site to re-run stronger security soon. A complete overhaul of privacy practices will be rolled out.

Will Discord Say Goodbye this 2023?

Truthfully, the recent data breach has alarmed many Discord users. Some grew panicked knowing that someone can purchase their personal data without their knowledge. Others think that Discord might be exiting soon because of the unexpected outage.

However, according to Piunika Web, those who regularly use Discord in communication, community-building, and gaming shouldn't fret about the Discord.io shutdown.

If you have not attempted to access Discord.io, there's nothing to worry about your data because they are two separate services.

This suggests that the rumors indicating Discord's closure this year are all false. They might have just misunderstood the whole news in the first place.

Discord Layoffs 40 Employees

Earlier this month, Tech Times reported that Discord implemented some changes in its current manpower. The platform reportedly axed 4% of its total workforce or roughly 40 people in the company.

Discord explains that the recent layoff was part of the restructuring efforts of the whole firm.

All affected workers will receive assistance from the company. It might be a shocking move for Discord to resort to this, but apparently, that's not the case for the whole digital industry.

This year, Meta, Amazon, and other tech giants have laid off some of their staff to reorganize the company. Outside the tech industry, FaZe Clan and Linktree are also affected by the diminishing workforce in the field of esports.
