Mobile World Congress 2023 lights up with the brightest stars in the smartphone industry and Motorola is not one to back away from their showcase, particularly with the rising star known as "Rizr." This is another expanding smartphone development from Moto, and the company centers on a rollable smartphone concept already showing off its skills and features.

The Rizr showcases an ingenious rollable concept unseen by other companies, and in this version, it expands into greater heights to bring more screen size to its user whenever needed.

The rolling mechanism is adopted by Motorola for the first outing of its Rizr smartphone, now seeing a prototype over at MWC 2023.

According to an attendee, Avi Greengart, Moto dubs this device the "Rizr," and it is a rollable concept that people were free to expand and retract to see how it works.

Greengart said that it is not as small as the Moto Razr foldable, as it is quite handy despite its retracted state, but it still fits on the hand of the user. There is a certain gesture that users need to do to expand and bring back its display to its original size, but it proves to bring more screen display to its users whenever it pops up.

It features a flexible screen that stows at the back, where its touch functions close up whenever it is rolled back.

Moto 'Rizr' Rollable Concept-Will It Endure Use?

As per Ars Technica's report, there are significant concerns about the device, centering on endurance, especially as it seems to be a fragile smartphone to carry around. Stowing it in one's pocket or bag may bring damage to it, especially if the screen stands out.

Additionally, there is a concern regarding its small battery size which may not last users for extended use of it.

Motorola's Foldable Smartphone Development

It was previously reported that Motorola is thinking of expanding the Razr lineup this 2023 and that the company would release two versions of it coming to the market. This was codenamed "Juno" and "Venus" which was told to bring different foldable from the company lined up for this year's release, with one centering on the Moto Razr 3.

Moto did not mention anything to the world about its Razr development, only that there is a chance that this new release would be available outside of China in its next iteration.

Reports also claimed that the Razr 3 would launch ahead of the anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, the next clamshell foldable from the South Korean giant.

Additionally, the "Rizr" comes as a surprise to all, especially as it does not have any previous reports from the company whatsoever, being a unique development in its foldable releases.

Rollable smartphones are not quite as familiar and popular among the public compared to vertical and horizontal folding smartphones, and with this appearance at MWC 2023, it is set to change Motorola in the game.
