This game innovation of Microsoft was revealed by podcaster Shpeshal Nick during his XboxEra podcast.

As of writing, Xbox controllers don't have any haptics feature.

This is why Sony's PlayStation consoles have the upper hand, thanks to the arrival of DualSense with haptics capabilities.

But Nick claims this would soon change for Xbox consoles.

"At Xbox, they're internally prototyping and even testing, possibly in-house testing, a new Xbox controller with a touchpad like the DualSense and the DualShock 4," said Nick.

The podcaster added that the tested Xbox controller prototype allegedly has the HD Rumble feature. If this is true, then the gaming device would have haptics.Nick explained that the prototype exists. However, he said it's unclear if this controller would be released to the public market.

Previously, Microsoft tested a small device that could allow users to stream Xbox games. However, it still hasn't launched yet because the tech firm couldn't price it properly.

Why Haptics and Touchpad are a Big Deal

As more and more video games are released, fans want to have a better gaming experience.

This is why various technologies are integrated into gaming gadgets to allow players to feel their favorite titles more.

Haptics is among the features that allow gamers to have a better immersive gaming experience. This technology can create an experience of touch by applying vibrations, motions, or forces to the user.

For example, if you are using Sony's DualSense controller while playing a shooting game, you can feel the recoil of the weapons in the game, such as the AK47.

The touchpad is also another big gaming innovation. This feature allows gamers to press and swipe on a surface to activate various controls, similar to how a laptop works.

If the rumored Xbox controller with haptics and touchpad features arrives, DualSense will definitely have a big competitor.

Aside from this controller, Microsoft is also working on other Xbox enhancements.

Previously, the new Xbox update that allows users to use Discord voice chats without using phones was rolled out.

We also reported that the new Xbox Keystone device appeared in Phil Spencer's tweet.
