Amazon Prime Gaming has quietly launched in India, weeks after the company began testing the service in the South Asian market. It is a program that provides subscribers with access to a library of games.

Latest Offering to India

The gaming service provides customers with access to a variety of mobile, PC, and Mac games, as well as in-game gems, for no extra cost. Subscribers to Amazon Prime and Amazon Video are eligible to make use of this benefit.

The e-commerce company refreshes its catalog with a steady stream of new releases every single month.

According to TechCrunch, customers in India can now download several video games, including League of LegendsDeathLoop, Quake, Call of Duty: Season 1, EA Madden 23, FIFA 23, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. All of which included loot boxes at no expense.

The Gaming Sector

Amazon Prime Gaming is a major selling point for the South Asian market. A yearly membership to Amazon Prime already attracts a dedicated fan base for its low price of only $18.

A veteran industry analyst and communications manager of Pune-based gaming startup SuperGaming, Rishi Alwani, has speculated that this might have fascinating long-term implications for India's PC gaming environment.

Alwani told TechCrunch in a written statement that Indian Prime members who like playing video games on PCs will be exposed to genres and styles they would not otherwise seek out.

The PC gaming market in India is dominated by high-budget "safe" AAA titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) and free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) titles like Valorant. Notably, both categories appeal to a price-conscious audience, Alwani pointed out.

"Prime Gaming brings in a varied, curated selection of genres and titles that many may have not even considered to pick up and play otherwise such as Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons," he added.

Amazon has begun offering downloadable content for popular games like Modern Warfare 2 and Apex Legends to keep its rapidly growing Prime membership in India.
