In a surprising turn of events, the "God of War" series is set to sail on Amazon Prime Video soon, as the e-commerce giant confirmed that it will co-produce the show with Sony Pictures Television. It is another live-action adaptation of a highly popular video game, one that follows the upcoming release of HBO's "The Last of Us" series in January.

Another Sony exclusive title is making its way to larger screens, one where it will deliver an on-screen adaptation of one of the most significant video game franchises in the world.

Amazon Prime Video dropped one of the most anticipated confirmations in the TV and gaming industry now, and it is their role in delivering the first-ever live-action adaptation of "God of War."

The e-commerce company's Prime Video will be co-producing the show with its owners, Sony, particularly with the Sony Pictures Television subsidiary.

According to CNET, "God of War's" showrunners include "Wheel of Time's" Rafe Judkins who will lead the game's adaptation to television. It will also include "The Expanse's" Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby to join Judkins in delivering the show to the public.

There were initial rumors regarding Amazon and Sony's negotiations in co-producing this live-action adaptation of the famed video game franchise, only getting its official confirmation now.

What 'God of War' Game Will They Adapt for Television?

Amazon shared a photo that points to the game that both companies will be adapting for a live-action television series, and it is with the 2018-released "God of War" PS4.

It centers on Kratos' journey as a father, alongside his son, famously known as "Boy," a.k.a. Atreus.

The show's adaptation will center on the Norse mythology arc in Kratos' story rather than his beginnings with the Greeks gods.

'God of War' and its Famous Franchise

One would not go talking about video games without mentioning "God of War" from Sony Santa Monica Studios, a game initially released in 2005 which delivered Kratos' story to the world. The critically-acclaimed and award-winning franchise is still massive today, centering on its recent release that ties the Norse mythology arc of the game with "God of War: Ragnarök."

Much to the disappointment of fans to see more of Kratos and Atreus's, a.k.a. Loki, story expand into a trilogy like earlier games, the developers and writers decided to cut it short into two games only.

Sony's rework of the "God of War" franchise which initially ended in 2010 with its trilogy that ends Kratos' story with the Greek gods still saw massive fame in its 2018 release for the PlayStation 4.

It only shows that Sony's recipe for the franchise brings them significant success and recognition for the epic that tackles the different famous mythologies in the world.

The latest development to the Sony game franchise is not another title in the works, not yet picking up on the success of "Ragnarök" to debut another story or mythology for Kratos. Rather, it will be to develop a new series with Amazon Prime Video to tell the story of Kratos and his journey into Norse mythology, centering on "God of War" PS4's plot.
