Apple iPad Production in China to Shift to India?

As per a recent report by CNBC, the iPhone maker is considering moving some of its current iPad production from China to India.

According to two unnamed sources of the news outlet, who are familiar with the Indian government matter, Apple is meeting with officials in the country.

However, it is worth noting that the sources clarified that the Cupertino-based tech giant has yet to make any final decisions. So it appears that the discussions are still ongoing between the officials of India and the iPhone maker.

Despite that, CNBC reports that the ongoing discussions between the two parties might end up kicking off the production of iPads in the Indian nation.

Apple CEO Tim Cook kicked off the five-day WWDC with announcements of a a new operating system, a new iPad Pro and a the HomePod, a music speaker and home assistant. WWDC runs through June 9.

According to a news story by The Verge, previous reports suggested that Apple is considering moving its iPad production to Vietnam. But two years since it made headlines, the giant phone maker has yet to do such a move.

It is worth mentioning that the renowned tech giant has already started producing some of its devices outside China.

In fact, it is not the first time that Apple shifted production from China to India. The iPhone 14 series began some of its production in India. But most of the manufacturing remains in China.

iPhone Shipping Delays

The Verge notes in its report that the Cupertino giant plans to move out some of its production in China. The firm is looking forward to diversifying its manufacturing by bringing it to other countries.

The high dependence of Apple on its China production is now gravely affecting the shipments and supplies of the iPhone 14 Pro models.

It is no thanks to the COVID-19 lockdowns in the country. Not to mention that the protests within the factories of the flagship device further cut down the supply output, forcing more delays.

iPhone Production in India is Slowly Increasing

The massive delays in iPhone 14 Pro deliveries these days show that its production still mainly takes place in China.
