Ancient Egyptians believe in the presence of their god, goddesses, deities, and other mythical entities who signify their religion, with people being mummified to get them ready for the afterlife. However, in a recent discovery by the Museum of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt, mummies were found with gold tongues before they were wrapped in linen and preserved for their next journey.

Archaeologists and experts believe that this is essential to please Osiris, one of the main Egyptian gods, who want silence in the afterlife, as he is sometimes regarded as the lord of silence.

According to a press release by the Museum of Tourism and Antiquities, these mummies with gold tongues were found in the ancient Egyptian site in the Quweisna necropolis. The study has expanded to nearby areas to look for more that have not been unearthed yet, with archaeologists stumbling upon a unique burial method for the departed.

The mummies were found in an extension of the said archaeological compound, leading them to discover more in the area. The researchers regarded that their discoveries saw that these mummies were treated with poor ways of preservation, unlike others before it.

Interesting Engineering further reports that these mummies with gold tongues signify silence in the afterlife, especially as they come face to face with the lord of silence, Osiris.

Osiris Wants Silence for All Journeying to the Afterlife

Being one of the most famous Egyptian gods in their mythology, Osiris is best known for his role as the god of the dead, fertility, and resurrection, also staying in the Egyptians' version of the afterlife. Researchers were not entirely sure about putting gold in the mummy's tongues, but some point them out to be a tribute to Osiris who wants those who journey to his lands to speak no word at all.

Some mummies found in the Quweisna necropolis had their bones infused with gold, among other parts before being wrapped in linen.

Mummies and the Study of their Ancient Methods

Egypt is a place with many treasures and discoveries, and also the center of one of the richest ancient architecture in the world for its pyramids and almost-impossible structures due to the absence of technology before. However, that is not the only reason for its fame, it also centers on its ancient beliefs with deep ties to its mythology and religion.

Until the present, people are still excavating landmarks or structures in Egypt to find treasures or discoveries underneath, with most being academic works and research to learn more about their culture.

Moreover, modern technology now helps in learning more about the mummies in the present, with the capability to do facial reconstructions digitally, to see their likenesses and looks from before.

Still, many studies are continuing and aim to learn more about the country's rich past, having a unique way of treating their departed ones, particularly the royalty. The gold-tongued mummies have a specific purpose, and they were made to please the god Osiris should they meet in the afterlife, giving them a chance to transcend to new beginnings even after death.
